Frankenstein's...Monster?

Welcome back mad scientists, this time around we're going for a classic with a twist.  A rite of passage for all mad scientists.  Can you guess? We're creating life of course.  Inefficient, green, amphibious life.  Presenting:  Frankenfrog.

It's alive! Mwah ha ha.

Yep, it's weird.  And it's entirely made from scraps of things I had lying around from other projects.

What you'll need:

  • dollar store toy frogs
  • scraps of plastic for the sign, screws and eye-patch
  • wing material (I used dollar store Halloween flies.  'Cuz he's a frog.)
  • a couple of corks
  • dollar store craft knife or box cutter
  • dollar store hot glue gun
  • dollar store super glue
  • dollar store paints and brushes
  • a wash (either bought or you can make your own)
  • a decent primer and sealer (optional but I'm choosing to use them)
  • basing material
You can definitely use a whole toy frog as the base for the model but I didn't even have that.  I went authentic.  So it's legs from several frogs (3/4 were hind legs), a torso and head with no eyes from another, and hot glue to hold the mess together.  Like I said, scraps from other projects.  Get the body together, glue the wings on, add the metal pieces.

The part that might be difficult is the screws.  I had some scrap pieces that looked alot like screws but you might need to get creative.  Nothing tooth picks and hot glue can't fix though.  The sign is also a conveniently sized plastic scrap, but card stock or cardboard would also work if you don't have random plastic bits everywhere like some of us.

After the body is assembled, start on the base.  Broken corks make great rocks, you can make whatever base shape you like and contour it to the frog body to make a better bond for the glue.  If you're short on bases you can always use the wooden dollar store bits we've talked about before on here.  I'm not sure why but I went for the Huge size, making it 3x3 on a grid.  I guess I wanted a massive frog.  Now superglue it all together.

I personally painted the frog and base separately, but it might be easier to glue the frog to the base and then paint it all up.  You do you.  You are your own person.

And uh.  Yeah.  I think that's it.  Paint it up, throw it at your party.  NPC or monster, it's up to you.
