Shipping Container Scatter Terrain

Welcome back to Reasonable Creations. If you're reading this, I'm glad you're here. Never expected to be writing a blog but I appreciate the views nonetheless. People's time is valuable to them but I've really been enjoying creating things for my games and sharing the ideas on here. Anyway, enough feelings, lets get to the model. This post is a bit different (or is it? I feel like I say that in most of my posts lately) in that it's less of a fantasy setting and more urban or post-apocalyptic setting. You can blame my new-found interest in 40k. It's consuming. I've been making a lot of scatter terrain for my games, since our entire board is homemade and I realized that I needed some bigger items that could be climbed on or used as a platform. So I decided on a massive old shipping container (sometimes called a c-can depending on your location) and set to work on this surprisingly time consuming build. Witty Aboleth Pun

Welcome back to Reasonable Creations, the blog where I struggle and fail to come up with a passable title every post. It’s getting pretty sad. BUT that’s not why you’re here. You’re here for an aboleth mini. What’s an aboleth I hear a single person ask? Well. Aboleth are rare and insidious monsters. They come in various flavours of “slimy” and “tentacled” and the average size of a fully grown aboleth is around 20 feet long. Think giant squid but meaner. They live underground, usually in or at least near a water source. Because of this they tend to amass armies of slave creatures that live nearby in the underdark. Oh, did I not mention? They also have a really rude habit of ensnaring people, or other monsters, with their mind control abilities. That’s right, a massive PSYCHIC squid who just wants to rule over all. This time around we have a strange theme and it’s not what you would expect; bath time. Who doesn’t love a nice relaxing bath? Around Halloween my wife was given a bunch of bath bombs (sorry if they’re called something else, that’s what we Canadians call them). One of them came in a cheap plastic skull. I immediately stole it. I also needed a larger base and took the lid from a carton of Epsom salts that would have just been trashed. Behold! My stuff.

Welcome back to anyone still reading, I hope you’re being inspired by this stuff at least a bit. I finally got around to making a classic monster that I feel like I’ve been ignoring. That’s right. The giant meatball itself: a beholder. Simultaneously one of the goofiest and most terrifying monsters (in my opinion anyway) beholders have a pretty long legacy to live up to. If you decide to run one for your party you’ll need a plan. And a mini: Hullo And a video: Now before I go any farther I will say that I had a muse for this. I do own an actual beholder mini, the newer whiz kids one, and I used it as a point of reference while making this. Not everyone will be that lucky, and that’s okay! Just a note. So why am I making a beholder if I own a proper one? Well a few reasons. First, I wanted to try my hand at this particular creature. Secondly, in my campaign my players are very strong. Holy Ship!

W elcome back to Reasonable Creations where we make mediocre minis from nothing but junk and dollar store items. This time around we're making terrain; technically. It's also the single biggest build I've ever attempted, and I went into it without any semblance of a plan. Do yourself a favor and draw out a few quick blueprints and measurements before you start. Learn from my mistakes. Removing already completed pieces that did not fit or that I didn't end up liking was by far the hardest part of making this.
